Bodily Thanks

November 19, 2012

Hands making a heart shape

I placed one hand on my heart,
the other on my belly
and whispered “thank you;”
a first, for sure.

Thank you for feeling,
sending me signals through aches & pains,
slowing me down when
that’s the last thing I want.

Thank you for tying my feet
to the Earth
and keeping me
in this very moment.

Thank you for being my vehicle –
both to move me around
and bring my voice forward
into this oceanic world.

Thank you for playing the role
of teacher
and student –
and for maintaining curiosity.

Thank you for being the lock
and the key:
for suppressing and surfacing
when the time is right.

Thank you for bringing
my love and light
to others — and for letting me
experience theirs.

May this be my new refrain:
“Thank you,
thank you,
thank you.
