Curvy Yogis, Represent! Debut Edition

I am about to burst I am so excited!  Today is the debut of the Curvy Yogis, Represent gallery!

As you may know, this idea got kicked up when Yoga Journal announced their Talent Search.   The intention behind it is to celebrate the diversity of people who practice yoga and who identify as curvy yogis, regardless of their size.  What I love about the gallery is seeing how many people resonate with the message of loving your body and wanting an inclusive practice.  As I mentioned the other day, struggles with body image don’t affect only some of us.  They affect many, if not all, of us to varying degrees throughout our lives.

I am so proud of the growing curvy community and all the tremendous advocacy y’all are doing across the country and world.  It is truly my honor to host this gallery and to be in community with you.  This gallery represents a true group effort, which has been supported not only by the people who sent in their pictures but also the many people who have been talking about accessibility with their friends and fellow yogis.

Without further ado, click here for the gallery!  And, if you’re so inspired, please leave shout-outs in the comments for everyone who shared their photos and share this up with your networks!  Thanks for all you do to keep sharing the Curvy word!

p.s. Shout-out to YogaDork, who also has a tremendous gallery on her site!

  1. OH MY GOODNESS! So much diverse glowing beauty I can hardly stand it! I’m off to teach Nia feeling all fired up! Thank you for creating this and thank you to every BODY who participated!

  2. I love it! Thank you Anna for what you do to make everyone feel that is yoga is universally accessible. I feel a connection as my body image was affected when I struggled with breast cancer last year. With treatments I beaome vunerable and felt that I lost a part of myself which is inherantly feminine. Yoga was my therapy. I’ve been following your blog for a while and am inspired by your message. I try to share your concepts with my students everyday. ( I Gave you a shout out on my blog too…..) You go girl!

  11. Wow! As a beginner, I’m so excited! Can’t wait to be able to accomplish some of those poses. It’s so encouraging to see bodies similar to mine do poses I’ve never really thought I could do. Kudos to all!

          1. Wow — beautiful photos but one really moved me. I think it was 40/41 — the Warrior I. I hate Warrior I. I viewed this picture, however, and saw it as powerful, full of openness and praise. Wow. Just. Beautiful. and inspiring. I can’t wait to get into my next Warrior I.

          2. Beautifully done all! I’m so pleased to be among your courageous and honest selves! Let’s show the world the wonder of Nature is in her diverse (and non-airbrushed) bounty!

  12. I love me the ladies but I’m sorry, Trikonasana (or, suck it Yoga Journal) wins!
